“Five Things You Probably Don't Know About Me” --the meme that is taking Zaadz by storm ;) The wonderful MaryW tagged me.
So i'll just get right to it.
1) I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of a schoolteacher/principal and an Automotive Chemical Sales Manager. Attended University of Oklahoma with a major in Advertising, minor in Philosophy ;)
2) At 19 I planned a backpacking trip to Ireland with a friend. We got buddy passes from my stepdad and headed out via Chicago. In Chicago we were informed that there was a trade embargo on Buddy pass tickets of a certain kind for all of Europe, I would be allowed to go but my best friend would not. After some frantic deliberation, i boarded the plane for the Emerald Isle and my buddy returned to Tulsa heartbroken. I had never really been out of Oklahoma, let alone the US and I was flying to Ireland,,,,by myself! It was a life changing experience.
3) "Earn Great money on the Adventure of a lifetime!--Alaska Salmon Fishing" You saw the ads in your college newspaper,,,I did that. After hearing a brother of a girlfriends harrowing tales of adventure in the last frontier, i signed up. "You will hate me every day you are there, but you will love me when you get back home," were his words of advice, he was exactly right. By far the most challenging employment 'opportunity' I have ever taken advantage of, this one made a man out of me.
Some highlights:
Working 12 hour days for 10 weeks with 1 day off(yes 1,,total)
Working 40 hours straight on opening day culminating with an exhausted fall face first into a boatfull of fish blood and saltwater.
Being accomplice to co-workers buying pot from a kid on a BMX bike and accompanying fellow fisherman to Good Time Charlies local strip joint on said day off.
Piloting a 10 foot skiff out into 12 foot surf 'too see if we can go fish today?' we made it out, but we didn't fish.
Captaining a crew consisting of a Thology graduate student that rode a motorcyle from new york to be there and a native Alaskan ex-convict that coudn't swim.
4) Lived for a year in a 20 foot RV trailer with a buddy at the base of Keystone Mountain, CO as a ski bum. I worked 4 nights a week as a shuttle bus driver, skied/boarded every day (almost 100 ski days that season.) 100 yard walk to the ski lift, 100 yard walk to work, 1/2 mile to the gym where we took our showers. When we got kicked off the Resort because of condo development i spent the summer living in a tent, until the snow started falling and i moved back into a conventional domicile.
5) Worked in L.A. as Personal Assistant/Coordinator to Mark Burnett, creator of Survivor, Apprentice, Contenter, etc. Taught his 6 and 10 year olds how to surf. took care of his cars, houses, blackberries, etc. Good times.
So to return the favor i am tagging:

Do you still have fish blood under your fingernails?
Salmon fishing – whew! I considered working in a cannery in Alaska at one time, but wimped out (intimidated by the prospect of getting too cold …)
From what I understand, your 30th birthday bash should be on that list…but perhaps that party has been officially blackboxed to protect the names of the not-so-innocent and mostly-innocent bystanders…
Wow, Casey. Thanks for sharing…and that's a great pic, too!!
what 30'th birthday party? you must have me confused with someone else…;)
Pretty sure it was you, Casey. In fact, that picture above was taken at your 30th, wasn't it? Oh wait, you wouldn't remember. I'll ask your brother.
